Coconut Aminos.....have you tried it, why switch?

The majority of us probably season our Stir Fry's and meals with Soy Sauce and I know I used to be one of them! We are made to think it is a healthy option but that's just not the case.

I recently switched to using Coconut Aminos in all of my cooking. Not just because it is the best and most tasty Paleo option but because it provides many added Health benfits unlike Soy Sauce.

So why switch to Coconut Aminos?
The Sap/Nectar of the Coconut Tree is raw, very low glycemic and is an abundant source of 17 Amino Acids, Minerals and Vitamins, such as sodium, magnesium and potassium and has a close to neutral pH unlike Soy Sauce.
A comparison between Coconut Nectar and Soy has shown that Coconut Nectar contains 2-14 times the Amino Acid content of Soy.
It will also add heaps of flavor to your cooking :)

So why not Soy?
Soy sauce is made from the Soy Bean which contains many harmful properties.
Did you know Soy Sauce naturally contains MSG but as it isn't added it doesn't appear on the label.
The soybeans and wheat used to make the sauce may be contaminated with GMO crops. Because of the wheat content, the sauce contains gluten, which may affect those with gluten sensitivities. Soy is also a common food allergen.
Soy Beans contain phytoestrogens, which for women has been linked to infertility and menstrual troubles.
They contain high levels of phytic acid that can inhibit the Body's ability to absorb important minerals, including zinc, calcium, copper , iron and magnesium.
If you have Thyroid issues then Soy is certainly not your friend. Did you know Soy contains goitrogens that are potent anti-thyroid compounds that can lead to endocrine disruption and thyroid disorder. There are some Vegetables that contain these properties as well which are depleted during cooking but cooking however does not remove these compounds from soy foods.
There are actually hundred's of reasons researched and published out there as to why you should limit or remove your consumption of Soy products to improve your Health but I won't bore you with them all today.

FINDING YOUR PH BALANCE

Are you feeling tired, run down, always find yourself getting sick?
There is a possibility your body is not in the PH Neutral state it needs to be in to fight off Illness and Bacteria.
Acidic bodies are unhealthy bodies. When the body is acidic, it creates an unwanted environment where illness, bacteria, and yeast thrive. When the body is overly acidic, the body takes minerals from vital organs and bones to neutralize the acid and remove it from the body. Because of this, the body’s mineral reserves such as calcium, sodium, potassium and magnesium can run dangerously low and cause damage that can go undetected for years, until it reaches unhealthy levels, causing acidosis.

Most of us are already consuming enough acid forming foods, such as dairy, grains, meats and sugar. Since the body is constantly generating acidic waste products from the metabolism, those waste products need to be neutralized or excreted in some way. In order to neutralize the constant acid generation, we need to supply the body with more alkaline foods.

Tips to make The Paleo Diet a routine part of your lifestyle:
  • For breakfast, make an easy omelet. Sauté onion, peppers, mushrooms, and broccoli in olive oil; add omega-3-enriched or free-range eggs and diced turkey or chicken breast.
  • Paleo lunches are easy. At the beginning of the week, make a huge salad with anything you like. A good starting point can be mixed greens, spinach, radishes, bell peppers, cucumbers, carrots, avocadoes, walnuts, almonds and sliced apples or pears. Store the salad in a large sealable container. Each morning prepare a single serving from the large batch and then mix in meat (ground beef, beef slices, chicken, turkey, ground bison, pork chunks, etc.) or seafood of choice (salmon, shrimp, tuna, or any fresh fish or seafood). Toss with olive oil and lemon juice and you are set.
  • For dinner, try spaghetti squash or Zuchinni noodles as a substitute for any pasta recipe. Top with pesto, marinara and meatballs. Roasted beets and their greens make a great side dish for pork. Asparagus, broccoli, and spinach can be steamed quickly. Salmon, halibut, or other fresh fish filets grill well with accompanying foil packs full of cut veggies with olive oil and garlic.
  • Berries and other succulent fruits make a great dessert. Pre-cut carrot and celery sticks, sliced fruit, and pre-portioned raw nut/dried fruit mixes are easy snacks.
Daily Sample Straight from Dr. Cordain’s The Paleo Answer:
  • Breakfast: Omega-3 or free ranging eggs scrambled in olive oil with chopped parsley. Grapefruit, or any fresh fruit in season, herbal tea
  • Snack: Sliced lean beef, fresh apricots or seasonal fruit
  • Lunch: Caesar salad with chicken (olive oil and lemon dressing), herbal tea
  • Snack: Apple slices, raw walnuts
  • Dinner: Tomato and avocado slices; grilled skinless turkey breast; steamed broccoli, carrots, and artichoke; bowl of fresh blueberries, raisins, and almonds; one glass white wine or mineral water. (Clearly, wine would never have been available to our ancestors, but the 85:15 rule allows you to consume three non-Paleo meals per week.)
